Made in the early 20th century in Italy, precisely in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola is a foldable chair, closable like a book and consisting of serpentine-curved and crosswise X elements. The backrest represents a stylized acacia twig. Acacia often appears in 19th-century iconography, especially in Masonic contexts.

The term "Savonarola" derives from the name of Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), during whose time the chair of this type would still be preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.

In good overall condition, normal signs of wear and age (the photos are part of the description). The chair has recently been restored with anti-termite treatment and wax for wood treatment.
