AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Front: Crowned NEDERLAND between two oak branches - 1908
Reverse: 5 cents between two bound orange branches.
Material: Copper-Nickel Cu-Ni
Weight: 4.51 grams
Reference: Schulman 913
Quality: MintState
Extra info
Because the round stiver was formerly almost indistinguishable from the quarter, it was sometimes issued at night as 25 cents. Therefore this infamous stiver was also nicknamed the 'night quarter' in common parlance. To prevent these shady practices, a new square stiver was introduced in 1913. Thus there was no possibility of confusion even at night.
This lot is offered in our special SSA Numistrust selection auction, this special 6th auction runs until the last Tuesday of the month.
This special Single Seller Auction contains exclusively collectibles from the reign of Queen Wilhelmina.

Seller's Story
Numistrust | The Numismaat originated from a passion for numismatics that has existed for more than 15 years. We focus on world coins of higher quality, rarer specimens, and precious metals. Personal service, honest descriptions, and professional handling are our top priorities. We regularly collaborate with MuntMarkt for the services related to grading and certifying coins, so we can support our customers in that area as well.
Besides Catawiki, we are active on LastDodo. In the future our offering will be expanded further with gold and silver bullion coins and additional sales channels, including eBay.
Our goal is not to be the largest supplier, but to become a reliable partner for collectors who value quality, honesty, and personal service.
We wish you much success and enjoyment in bidding!
With numismatic regards,
