Rarest pair of holy water fonts made in richly chased and engraved silver.
The decorations feature themes of mythological marine creatures (mermaids), stylized floral and plant motifs.
Italian craftsmanship of the 18th century, specifically from the city of Mantua,
For a comparison I have attached photos of the hallmarks present on the objects, and photos of the pages of the specialized book on silver hallmarks ("Poinçons d'Argent de la Tardy") dedicated to Italian hallmarks of the 18th century.
Measurements:
- 180 mm x 98 mm
- 170 mm x 97 mm
Total weight: 173 grams
One of the holy water fonts shows traces of tin (old restoration), while the other has a small flaw on the bottom. Overall they are in good condition considering their age.
The holy water fonts are sold together with their vintage velvet-covered stand, which makes them easily hangable or suitable for display in a shop window.
The lot is cleaned and inspected before being professionally packed and shipped with insured and trackable shipping.
