Bohemian Lithyalin glass beaker in the Biedermeier style from Bohemia, Czechia, dating to 1800–1850, measuring 15.2 cm in height with a 10.2 cm top rim and a ribbed foot of 8.3 cm diameter, featuring a brown finish with gilt wear and an engraved three‑letter monogram and a Dürer-inspired bagpiper image.
Description from the seller
Here is a rare example of a Biedermeier era Bohemian Lithyalin glass beaker or (Ranftbecher). Measuring 15.2 cms tall and with a top rim measuring 10.2 cm in diameter, the ribbed foot measures 8.3cm in diameter. Very much in the manner of Friedrich Egermann who invented the technique in around 1830, it has an engraved three letter monogram to the bottom right of the engraving which may relate to Furchtegott Leberecht Fischer. With a brown stone like finish there is a gold leaf engraved image of a renaissance bagpiper by Albrecht Durer. In good antique condition with no chips or cracks, there is some minor wear to the gilding on the rim. The brown Lithyalin finish is thinner in places likely part of the design which mimics agate or polished stone.
