Severino Baraldi (Sermide, December 10, 1930 – Milan, November 21, 2023) was an Italian illustrator.
For the quality and quantity of the drawings painted throughout his very long career, critics place him at the top of Italian illustration, alongside Achille Beltrame and Walter Molino, who were his initial artistic reference points. It is estimated that he illustrated more than 220 books and published over eight thousand drawings in total.
A precocious talent, he began drawing as a child in his father’s barber shop, making small drawings for customers with sidewalk chalk.

In 1955 he moved to Milan, where he was hired at a advertising studio; at that time he enrolled in evening courses at the Castello Art School, where he deepened his knowledge and techniques in drawing the nude and anatomy. Among his early significant works is a considerable series of illustrations for the youth encyclopedia, “I Quindici,” signed under the pseudonym Dante Mogliese.
In 1956 he was commissioned to illustrate the Bible for Messaggero di Sant'Antonio Editrice of Padua. With the boards created for those two volumes, he presented himself to several publishing houses that offered him more and more work: particularly school books.
At the beginning of the 1960s Baraldi began an intense production of children's fiction. In the same period he began a seven-year collaboration with the prestigious English historical divulgation magazine “Look & Learn.” In the 1970s, Fratelli Fabbri entrusted him with illustrating the historical chapters of the encyclopedia “Scoprire.”
At the end of the 1970s he began a collaboration, still ongoing, with San Paolo Edizioni, specifically with the weekly Famiglia Cristiana, for which Baraldi illustrates “The Facts of the Day,” and with Il Giornalino where he also drew some educational vignettes for the series
