An exceptional 18-piece solid silver service in Rocaille décor, Style Louis XV, weighing 1,150 g with 925/1000 Minerve hallmark and Master mark LB, dating from 1900–1910 in France and delivered in its period blue box, with each fork about 85 g, large table spoons about 79 g, and coffee/dessert spoons about 26 g.
Description from the seller
Exceptional solid silver set (1.15 kg) – Rocaille style – Goldsmith Léon Berchot or Leon Boivin?
Collection piece: An exceptional 18-piece solid silver table service (Minerva First Title).
I am offering for sale a French goldsmithing ensemble from the late 19th century, believed to have been crafted by a prestigious Paris house (master mark LB with scales, active from 1893).
This set stands out for its finely foliated Rocaille motif and an exceptionally deep chasing work. Unlike the standard productions of the era, this is a so-called “Heavy Model” commission, offering remarkable density and a superb hand feel (85 g for a single fork).
Set details (18 pieces):
6 Table forks: ~85 g each
6 Large table spoons: ~79 g each
6 Coffee/Dessert spoons: ~26 g each
Total weight of solid silver: 1,150 g (1.15 kg)
Features & Condition:
Minerva Head, First Title (925/1000) and Master’s mark Léon Berchot perfectly legible on each piece.
Monogram: Single letter "G" finely calligraphed in an English style. The advantage of a single letter makes this set easy to personalize for a family or as a customized gift (G for Gabriel, Guillaume, Garnier, Girard, etc.) or even "God" or "Gnosis" for a religious style.
Condition: Superb. The fork tines are long (not worn), the bowls are perfect. The patina of the silver beautifully enhances the Baroque decor.
Why acquire this set?
Beyond the value of the precious metal, it is the work of the master goldsmith that is highlighted here. The Rocaille style, emblematic of French luxury, integrates as well on a classic table as in a historical lifestyle art collection.
Delivered in its very beautiful period blue velvet case!
