Hadra Hydria of Alexandria with laurel, a 3rd century BC ceramic water-jar from Crete used as a cinerary urn in Egypt, measuring 43 cm high, 34 cm wide and 25 cm deep, in good condition with an inscription and a base crack, TL Tested and accompanied by an authenticity certificate; acquired in 1980 from a private Spanish collection.

Beautiful and rare masterpiece, this hydria from Hadra, a cemetery near Alexandria, is one of the last 300 examples known today. These water jars, originally produced in Crete, were used as cinerary urns in the cult of the dead in Egypt. It is assumed that this vase form was introduced to Egypt to carry out burials in Greek style. On the base there is an inscription. Intact, just a crash in the base (pictures).
