KING KULL
King Kull, the barbarian warrior who became king of fair Valusia (Atlantis), before it was swallowed by the oceans, and before the coming of the Hyborian age, and Conan the Barbarian, is one of the many heroes originally created by writer Robert Ervin Howard (1906 - 1936). In the stories/adventures of Kull, he mostly has to deal with warring tribes, conquests, power intrigues, wizards and monsters.
Due to the 1970ies succes of Marvel’s comicbook adaptations of Conan the Barbarian, Marvel started publishing adaptations of the adventures of other characters of R.E. Howard, which all became popular, because they were rediscovered by a comicbook audience in a broadening market, which also contributed to the rising popularity of the fantasy & sword & sorcery genre in comicbooks, novels, games, movies and tv-series.

ARTIST / VISUAL STORYTELLER: JOHN BOLTON
John Bolton (°1951) is a British comic book artist & illustrator with an ultra-realism art-style, and was one of the first British artists to work in the American comicbooks industry.
He won the EISNER AWARD for “Best Painter & Digital Artist” in 1996.
His main interests are fantasy & horror.
Worked mainly for Marvel, DC Comics, and Dark Horse.
Illustrated comicbookstories about “King Kull”, “Classic X-Men”, Marada the She-Devil, The Black Dragon, stories in the Batman universe, and collaborated with Neil Gaiman for the launch of the DC-Vertigo comic book series “The Books of Magic”.

ART-TECHNIQUE
The ultra-realism art of artist John Bolton for this story, was executed in pencils and china ink, combined with painted greys (probably in watercolor), on bristol board comicbook art drawing paper.
