Charles Blossfeldt (1865-1932) made his first plant photographs in 1890 when he was a student in Italy. In 1928, these photographs were gathered in the book "Unformen der Kunst" which immediately received enthusiastic reception. This masterpiece by Blossfeldt underscores the relationship between nature and art, and has become one of the most influential books in the history of photography. The abstract forms and structures of nature that he revealed impressed his contemporaries. This book was not originally intended to be a conceptual art work but rather an educational nature book.
