Two wooden watchmaker layettes with a large stock of watch glasses, dating from the first half of the 20th century.
Description from the seller
Pair of two antique watchmaker’s layettes with a large stock of watch glasses
Beautiful set of two antique workshop layettes for watchmaking, preserved with a large portion of their contents.
The first, tall and narrow, has 8 drawers with old filing plaques numbered from 170 to 550. The second, lower, has 5 drawers. Each drawer is compartmentalized to allow precise storage of the glasses by size.
The two pieces still contain several hundred old watch glasses, mainly for pocket watches, with many different diameters. Many still bear their old labels or watchmaker references.
The layettes are made of old softwood, probably fir or pine, with light-colored inner dividers. Beautiful patina of use, typical of functional workshop furniture.
Probably dateable to the first half of the 20th century.
Used condition with marks, scratches, stains, and minor wear linked to age. The glasses have not been counted or checked individually; some pieces may have flaws or small chips.
Lovely set for a watchmaker, restorer, collector of antique equipment, or workshop decoration.
