AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Manuscript liturgical calendar excerpt from a Book of Hours, France, Troyes (Champagne), 15th century.
Manuscript on parchment composed of 12 leaves, constituting the liturgical calendar of the twelve months of the year. Calligraphic text in Gothic lettering in black and red ink.
Each month is introduced by a painted initial “KL” in blue, red and gold, accompanied by delicate decorations and marginal extensions.
Dimensions: about 16.5 × 12.5 cm.
Modern tawny calfskin binding, with yellow/orange flyleaves.
Interesting provenance: presence, at the head of the first leaf, of a manuscript ex-libris attributed to the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Montier-la-Celle, near Troyes. This is an old handwritten possession mark and not an author’s signature. This attribution follows the provenance indicated in the prior description of the work.
Condition: signs of age and use, heavy foxing, stains and dirt on the parchment as well as fading of some inks. The painted initials and decorative elements remain clearly visible. Please inspect the photographs for the overall condition.
A rare set preserving the 12 leaves of the calendar of a French Book of Hours from the 15th century, with polychrome decoration and attributed monastic provenance.
