Gorgeous spherical vase by Boch Frères Keramis from La Louvière, executed in fine Belgian faience, dating from 1930–1940.
The vase bears the well-known Iznik decor D.69, which was associated with designer Charles Catteau. The richly worked decoration is inspired by the historic ceramics from Turkish Iznik. Stylized flowers, leaves and graceful tendrils are rendered in vibrant cobalt blue, turquoise-green and orange-red on a cream-colored ground.
The surface shows a beautiful network of craquelure, characteristic of this type of glazed faience. The dark blue neck and foot rims form a nice contrast with the colorful floral decor.
Marked on the bottom with “Keramis – Made in Belgium”, the decor number D.69 and an impressed shape number 721.
The vase is in a beautiful used condition, with signs of age and craquelure appropriate to its age. At the bottom of the base ring there is a chip/damage, clearly visible in the photos. The small white speck on the vase is not flaking off, but an irregularity in the ceramic or glaze.
