Technical data:

The camera is in an exceptionally beautiful and well-preserved original condition for its age. The housing, front, controls and markings are very well preserved. Even the bellows look visually very good and clean. The interior and film chamber are also exceptionally clean. The original transport rollers are present.

The camera opens up and extends cleanly. The viewfinder/rangefinder, focusing, the red shutter release, and the characteristic Lighten/Darken exposure correction are present. Also included are the neck strap and the fixed protective housing cover.

Photo Dobers was a traditional Hamburg specialist camera shop, whose history goes back at least to the 1930s. Historical documents show the shop in Kleine Johannisstraße as early as 1935; later it was run as “Photo Dobers Charlotte Dobers.”

The original dealer plaque is thus a beautiful contemporary detail and gives this camera an interesting German sales history or provenance: an American Polaroid Land Camera that at the time reached Hamburg through the German photo trade.

The plaque was, of course, not removed and belongs to the history of this exemplar.

Inside, the original English operating instructions, for example for cleaning the film transport rolls, are still very nicely preserved.

### Condition / function

Visually, in my assessment the camera is in a truly superb collector’s condition, especially given its age of over 50 years. Please also view the numerous detailed photos—they are part of the description.

The camera was tested and functions perfectly. All functions operate cleanly and precisely. The mechanics are easy to operate; the camera opens and closes smoothly, focusing works cleanly, and the shutter release works reliably.

Important note: The camera uses the historic Polaroid Peel-Apart Packfilm. Modern Polaroid 600- or i-Type cassettes do not fit. Corresponding older pack film, e.g. Fuji FP-100C, is today offered only on the collectors/used market.

A very nice Polaroid Automatic 320 for collectors of historic cameras, Polaroid enthusiasts, vintage photography, or as an extraordinary decorative/display piece – with particularly interesting Hamburg dealer history.

3) Polaroid ZIP Land Camera Type 87 – 1971–1975 – Made in UK – Vintage

The Polaroid ZIP Land Camera was produced in the early to mid-1970s, around 1971–1975. This exemplar was manufactured in the United Kingdom and bears inside the original marking “MADE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.”

Particularly interesting is the German version of the camera. The operating and application instructions on and in the camera are in German and are still excellently preserved today.

The ZIP Land Camera was designed for Polaroid Type 87 black-and-white pack film. Type 87 was a high-sensitivity instant film with ISO 3000 / 36°.

The camera features a fixed-focus lens, so no distance setting is required for normal photography. The shutter speed is around 1/200 second.

The characteristic red adjustable dial is used to set the exposure. The distances given above of approx. 1.2 m to 3 m refer to the use of flash, not to focusing.

For flash photography, the camera is designed for the then-standard AG-1 or AG-1B flash bulbs.

Inside, the original notes are still fully present, including:
