Suruku double-hyena mask - Bambara - Mali

Large double-hyena mask in Bambara style, used during the final homecoming ceremony of the initiates' village.
One can observe a protrusion on the forehead in the shape of an animal. This is topped by a ringed horn.
Large pierced ears, a ridge-like nose and a wide vertical open mouth complete this remarkable profile.
This rare mask remains in good condition. Only a superficial crack runs across the mask on the left side.
It comes from a village north of Segou.
