Succulent Pot, a ceramic gres sculpture by Rosa Cortiella from Barcelona, Spain, produced after 2020, in verde, turquesa, rosa and beige glazes on a terracotta pedestal, 132 cm high, 48 cm wide and deep, weighing 50 kg, in como nuevo condition.
Description from the seller
“Succulent Pot” is a sculptural planter designed not only to hold plants but also to collect and store rainwater, embodying an urgent call to rethink water use in daily life. The design explores textures and materials, mimicking through leaf-like elements the water-collection methods of succulent plants. The planter rests on a water reservoir shaped like a wicker basket, all placed on a terracotta pedestal. The use of terracotta — an timeless ceramic — pays homage to historic architectural capitals, symbolizing a podium that amplifies the piece’s message. The elevated pedestal also allows easy access to the stored water via a hose for convenient watering.
With chiaroscuro shadows and textured brushstroke effects, the planter acquires an organic, painterly quality that fuses traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary aesthetic. True to a zero-waste philosophy, it incorporates surplus glazes from the studio, turning waste into an ecological material.
EXHIBITED AT DESIGN MIAMI 2024.
