The Sogo are a Bantu people of Central Africa, settled in central Gabon in Ngounié Province. Traditionally farmers (slash-and-burn agriculture) and matrilineal, the Mitsogo are renowned for their rituals of religious practice and highly elaborate initiation rites, notably bwiti (knowledge of the world) or mwiri for men (the warrior training of men), and nyembe (for women, teaching young girls the skills as well as the roles of women in society).
