The Yaure are considered a sub-group of the Baoulé of Ivory Coast. Their masks are nonetheless easily distinguished from those of the Baoulé. This Yaure mask, carved from hardwood and dyed black, features a 'beard' running along the face and carved from the same piece (a typical Yaure characteristic). The hairstyle with three hanging braids is also characteristic of Yaure masks. The mask's face shows strong similarities with those of their 'parents', the Baoulé: arched eyebrows, almond-shaped eyes, scarifications, long and fine nose and small mouth. Two ancient cracks are visible on the rear edge.
