Gogottes are rare, roughly 30-million-year-old sandstone concretions from the Oligocene, found mainly near Fontainebleau in France. They are composed of almost 98% silica, hardened by circulating water. Their bizarre, often cloud-like or winding shapes make them coveted works of art as "natural sculptures."
