The Topcon Unirex (1969) is a leaf-shutter 35mm SLR from Tokyo Kogaku, notable for offering both through-the-lens metering and shutter-priority automatic exposure in a leaf-shutter design, with interchangeable lenses on the Topcon UV mount. It is offered here with the UV Topcor 50mm f/2 standard lens, made by a company whose optics were also supplied to the US Navy.

Appearance

Optical Condition
Finder: Fungus in the viewfinder; it is usable.
Lens: UV Topcor 50mm f/2: light haze inside. See photos.

Functional
Power, light meter and shutter work. The meter is accurate in dim light and reads about 1 stop bright in bright light (+1.2 EV at EV15).
Shutter measured: 1 s = 1 s, 1/60 = 1/51.
The light seals have been replaced.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/1 s (on the mark)
- 1/60 — measured 1/51 s (approx. 0.2 stop slow)
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 0.2 UNDER / EV15: 1.2 OVER
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.

This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced

Known Issues
1. Fungus in the viewfinder (usable).
2. Light haze inside the lens; expect slightly lower contrast against strong light.

Shipping
We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
