Rare silver emergency coin struck by the besieged city of Haarlem during the Siege of Haarlem, one of the major episodes of the Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule.

The city was besieged by Spanish forces commanded by Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo, son of Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, 3rd Duke of Alba, beginning in December 1572. During the siege, Haarlem issued emergency silver coinage using available precious-metal resources to finance the city's defence and maintain monetary circulation.

This Half Daalder Klippe, issued on 21 December 1572, belongs to this exceptional series of siege coinage. The characteristic klippe form, with its angular/flan shape and stamped designs, reflects the emergency circumstances under which these coins were produced.

The issue is particularly notable for its strong historical connection with the Dutch Revolt (Nederlandse Opstand) and the struggle for independence of the Low Countries.
