Description from the seller
Beautiful, in perfect condition, beautifully colored, very large XXL shell Charonia Tritonis - colloquial name Triton trumpet or giant triton, this is a species of a very large sea snail, a mollusk of the sea snail family Charoniidae, tritons. It is one of the largest mollusks on a coral reef. The shell is thick and heavy, strongly twisted into the shape of an elongated tower. Ended sharply at the summit, gradually widens toward the aperture.
Strongly ribbed, with pronounced spiral ribs and knobs. The color of the shell is most often yellowish, creamy or brown with irregular, darker spots and stripes. The aperture (shell opening) is large, wide, oval.
The interior is smooth, often orange, pink or red-brown, contrasting with the outer surface of the shell. The outer lip is thick, sometimes wavy, often with delicate dentition.
Special features - thanks to its large size and distinctive structure, it has been used in many cultures as a wind instrument (shell-trumpet).
It is valued by collectors and has significance in art and rituals. Dimensions - 110×155×315mm. I warmly recommend it to collectors and interior decorators.
