Wheelback chair in dark-stained solid walnut, Northern Italy, Umbertine period, late 19th century, ca. 1880-1910.
Entirely turned wheelback structure with rear uprights topped by finials. The backrest consists of an upper waved crossbar and a richly carved central crossbar featuring a central shell motif, scrolls, and foliage. Front crossbar connecting the front legs, carved with a symmetrical motif of opposing scrolls and a fine-pitted background. Legs joined by turned H-stretchers.
