AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pair of large hexagonal porcelain vases in the Compagnie des Indes style by Samson (Paris, late 19th century) - Arms of the Dukes of Norfolk (Sola Virtus Invicta)

Superb and rare pair of hexagonal vases in fine porcelain of a Commande Chinese style, produced by the Parisian factory Samson et Cie around 1880-1900.

Inspired by 18th-century export pieces, these vases display on their main face the arms of the famous English family Howard (Dukes of Norfolk), consisting of a shield crowned, supported by a lion and a horse, and underscored by a blue ribbon bearing the motto “Sola Virtus Invicta”. The body is adorned with delicate polychrome floral bouquets in white-on-white relief reserves, while the neck and base are framed by green geometric and reticulated friezes. The base bears the traditional faux mark in characters simulating Chinese writing (typical of Samson’s production).
