AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Vaas - Confettispatglas in red, yellow and olive green on amber • Bohemia, around Loetz - Kralik • ca. 1925-1935 - Glass

Bohemian interwar glass vase in which hundreds of colored glass fragments lie like a mosaic in amber glass; the flat-cut upper rim is factory finish and not damage.

A mouth-blown mosaic glass vase from Bohemia, circa 1925 to 1935. Red, yellow, olive green and inky blue glass fragments lie like a mosaic in amber glass. Size and density distinguish this piece. At 21 centimeters and almost a kilo of glass, it is substantial for this genre. The fragments lie so densely that they form a continuous plane.

For this object a Buy Now price has also been set for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting.

At a glance:

Material: glass, mouth-blown and cased mosaic glass ("end of day")

Dimensions: h 21 x diameter 13 cm

Weight: 955 grams

Brand: no factory mark, signature or label; also no pontil mark under the base

Date: ca. 1925-1935

Provenance: from the collection of Decaders Gallery

Description and context:

Egg-shaped body with recessed shoulder and slowly widening neck, on a narrow foot ring. The colored fragments were rolled onto the hot glass and blown in: on the belly they remained round, on the shoulder and neck they stretched into stripe forms. A clear overlay layer encloses them, giving the surface a smooth finish. They are loose fragments without a kern ring, so mosaic glass and not millefiori. This genre was made in Bohemia for export during the interwar period. The closest and most color-rich work in this group is documented with Loetz, which marketed it under the production number 237 in jade green.

Condition:

Good. No break, crack, flake or restoration observed. The upper rim is flat-cut and not re-polished: with this form, factory finish and no damage. There is no pontil mark under the base. That exact combination separates a factory rim from a later shaved rim. In the matte ground there is some buildup, to be cleaned. Bubbles and slight asymmetry are production characteristics. See the images.

In the interior:

Fits in an Art Deco, mid-century, or eclectic interior, on a mantelpiece or windowsill. In daylight the amber base glows, while the blue fragments stand out as a silhouette.

Shipping:

Professionally packed in a sturdy box with cushioning material, for fragile objects a double box. Always insured with Track and Trace. See the feedback from previous buyers.

Attribution and sources:

No maker is claimed. The décor is placed alongside the four documented Loetz version 237 pieces. Technique and form match, but 237 has a jade-green base mass, and Loetz production numbers are color-specific. Welz is excluded: none of the sixty-six documented Welz decors has this dense mosaic structure, and Welz worked with folded edges. The Loetz/Kralik circle remains. The edge finishing has been checked against the identification guide by Warren Gallé on loetz.com.
