The Lengola, whose territory is practically surrounded by that of Metoko, between the Lualaba and Lomami rivers, were socially structured in the same way as the latter by the Bakota institution.

The Lengola are known by the name ubanga Nyama.
They were erected in the center of the village after the chief's death.
These minimalist sculptures are supposed to represent the founding ancestor of the Lengola, Suway. Such statuettes are rare (Neyt: 38) and their exact functions are little known (Biebuck: 240). Biebuck suggests that these statues allowed invocations to be performed, especially by men.
They are also used during the Butoko initiation rites.
These statuettes can eventually be dismantled for storage or portability, as they are rarely used.
