Indochine Tonkin 1905 — Superb set of 20 circulated real-photo postcards with NUI-DEO TONKIN stamps to Tunis
Description:
A fine historical and homogène marcophile collection composed of 20 period postcards (1905) relating to Tonkin (French Indochina), all from the same colonial correspondence tracking package.
Postal history & Marcophily:
All cards are franked with the Indochina 5 c green type Grasset stamp.
Beautiful original round cancellations with clear dates: NUI-DEO TONKIN (military office / sector post).
Tracked correspondence addressed to Mr. Sigonney, Customs Inspector, Tunis (Tunisia).
Presence of maritime transit marks and arrival stamps of the Tunis Regency on the back.
Iconography & Sought-after Themes:
Scenes of life, ethnography and trades: opium smoker preparing his pipe, musician singers, blind musicians, Annamite spinners at their work, bearers of wood.
Portraits of authorities: remarkable large official portrait of the Tông-Dôc of Lang-Son in full dress uniform with medals, Annamite mandarin surrounded by his servants.
Haiphong and landscapes: wooden junk (unloading and weighing), river junk, Doson ferry, Haiphong port, Bonnal canal (two different scenes), Sông Tam-Bac, Kè-So marble workshops, Ti-Cau farm, Kinh-Luoc village, Long-Tchéou pagoda.
Condition:
Very good overall condition for documents from 1905.
Clean cards, preserved corners, stamps and postmarks clearly legible.
All items are protected in individual sleeves.
