Description from the seller
Antique Meissen View Tazza with Saucer, Biedermeier 1817–1824. 1st choice. Perfect porcelain!
A rare, museum-quality and excellently preserved Biedermeier view tazza with matching deep saucer from the legendary porcelain manufactory Meissen (Germany). A true collector’s item of the top class, over 200 years old.
Details and attribution:
• Manufacturer: Meissen (Germany).
• Period of manufacture: ca. 1817–1824 (precisely datable by the rare underglaze blue Roman numerals "I" and "II" under the swords, which were used in this short period for the mass formula).
• Mark: Underglaze blue swords mark. 1st choice (clean swords, no rasping strokes/erasures).
• Association: The cup and saucer are absolutely original pair ("in suite”) – both pieces bear the identical gold painter’s number "51.".
• Decor: Exquisite, polychrome hand painting. On the front face of the cup is a magnificent gold-radiated rocaille cartouche containing a fine vedute painting (a detailed view of a castle or castle garden). The cup is also notable for a complete interior gilding.
Condition:
• Porcelain in perfect condition: Absolutely undamaged. No cracks, no chips, no flea bites, no hairlines and no restorations. The cup is internally completely clean and white, without any discoloration.
• Gilding: There is honest, age-related and absolutely authentic gold wear (mainly at the inner rim of the cup and on the relief ridges of the saucer – see photos). This is a normal age and use mark that underscores the piece’s originality. The porcelain has not been re-gilded or repainted.
• UV test: The set has been examined under a UV lamp (black light). The glaze glows uniformly; there are no hidden defects or repairs. A photo under UV light is attached to the gallery."
