Rare Cretan State Key Type: 1901 Crete Silver 5 Drachmai - NGC VF Details (Paris Mint)

Up for auction is a crown-sized silver classic from the Cretan State (Kritiki Politeia): an authentic 1901 5 Drachmai struck at the Paris Mint under High Commissioner Prince George of Greece and Denmark (KM# 9 / Davenport 118).

Country / Authority: Cretan State (ΚΡΗΤΙΚΗ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΙΑ) under Prince George 

Obverse: Features the right-facing portrait of Prince George encircled by the Greek inscription "ΠΡΙΓΚΗΨ ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ ΥΠΑΤΟΣ ΑΡΜΟΣΤΗΣ ΕΝ ΚΡΗΤΗ 1901" (Prince George of Greece, High Commissioner in Crete), with engraver signature A. BORREL below the truncation. 
Reverse: Displays the magnificent crowned coat of arms of the Cretan State flanked by mantle draping and wild men supporters, surrounded by "ΚΡΗΤΙΚΗ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΙΑ" and the denomination "5 ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ". 

Historical Significance: Issued during the short-lived autonomous Cretan State era (1898–1908) prior to unification with Greece. The 5 Drachmai crown is the single highest denomination of the series and a key goal for Greek and European world crown collectors.

Grading & Certification: Authenticated and encapsulated by NGC - Cert #8749308-005. It retains bold portrait lines, clear shield details, sharp lettering, and attractive cabinet toning. 

A scarce, large silver key issue that rarely surfaces in any grade!
