Delamarche - Atlas de la Géographie ancienne, du moyen-âge et moderne - 1841

A fascinating illustrated edition of 40 maps from this cartographic work designed to offer a structured representation of the geographical evolution of the world across the major periods of history, from Antiquity to the modern era -

Designed in the tradition of 19th-century historical atlases, the collection combines geography with history to allow the reader to compare territories, states, peoples and borders through the eras and to understand the successive transformations of political space -

Ancient geography occupies a fundamental place here, as the maps dedicated to Antiquity seek to reconstruct the main kingdoms, empires, regions, seas and cities known to the ancient civilizations, notably in the Mediterranean, European, Asian and North African regions -

The interest of these maps lies as much in their educational function as in their aim to reconstruct a world whose territorial divisions differ considerably from those observed in the 19th century -
