Description from the seller
CHINA. Guangzhou. 1 Cash. 1890-1908. Emperor Guangxu (1875-1908)
- Value: 1 Cash.
- Reign: Emperor Guangxu (1875-1908).
- Year: 1890-1908.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: 光緒通寶. Reverse: ᠪᠣᠣ · ᡤᡠᠸᠠᠩ.
- Grade: MS62 (NGC).
1 Cash coin, machine-struck at the Guangdong provincial mint, Guangzhou Branch, during the final years of the Qing Dynasty. The obverse features the four characters 光緒通寶, read top to bottom and right to left, meaning “Guangxu tender coin,” arranged around the traditional square hole. The reverse shows two vertical inscriptions in Manchu script forming Boo-guwang and identifying the Guangdong Mint. The specimen preserves an attractive golden tone, full relief, and part of the original luster, with light marks, small planchet irregularities, and localized weakness compatible with MS62 grade. Its round format with a square hole continues a long Chinese monetary tradition, while the mechanical minting reflects the modernization of provincial mints during the late Qing Empire.
