Decorative ornament - Italy

Pair of magnificent friezes, entirely hand-carved and gilded with gilt gold (finest gold), dating back to the 19th century (the 1800s). These decorative elements, richly worked, display the typical Rococo and Baroque taste. The structure is formed by sinuous foliate volutes, inspired by the classic acanthus leaf, which terminate at the bottom with a rich composition of buds and flowers finely carved. The gilding with finest gold on a gypsum (guazzo) preparation gives the surface great luster. They were used as over-door decorations, parts of monumental looking glasses or salon consoles. The dimensions are almost identical, differing slightly: height 75 cm with a width of about 26 cm and a thickness of about 9 cm. The pair is mirror-image, in excellent condition for the period, preserving intact the magnificent original patina of the gold leaf. Good condition with normal traces of time and gold wear.
