Venini Fazzoletto glass vase, hand-blown on Murano, in deep ruby red, 25 cm wide, 22 cm high and 20 cm deep, dating to 1999 within the 1990–2000 period, made in Italy, in good used condition with minor signs of aging and spots, and associated with the MoMA design collection.
Description from the seller
The vase is originally from 1999.
The model ranks among the most celebrated designs in the history of Italian glassmaking. The vase was originally designed in 1948 by Paolo Venini and Fulvio Bianconi for the prestigious glass house Venini on the island of Murano, Venice.
The name Fazzoletto literally means "handkerchief" in Italian. The design mimics the flowing, wavy folds of a lifted, inverted handkerchief.
Unique Features
Technique: These vases are hand-blown. While the glass is still glowing hot and molten, the master glassblower uses a centrifugal, swaying motion to form the organic folds. This ensures that no two Fazzoletto vases are exactly alike.
Color: This specific piece is finished in a deep, elegant ruby-red shade. Depending on the exact variation (such as the well-known Rosso Lattimo series), some variants have an opaque white or pastel-colored inner layer (incamiciato), while others are completely transparent red.
Status: The design is so groundbreaking that some examples have been included in the permanent design collection of MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York.
