Delamain Pléiade Témoignage M. Dauge, 70 cl, 46% ABV, distilled in 1969 in Grande Champagne, bottled in 2023, France, with original packaging.
Description from the seller
Delamain Pléiade – Témoignage de M. Dauge (Grande Champagne Cognac).
This bottle is part of the ultra-exclusive Pléiade line, conceived by Cellar Master Dominique Touteau to showcase rare Cognacs with a distinct history:
The story behind the bottle:
Origin: The spirit comes from the small vineyard (10 hectares) of Monsieur Dauge, a winegrower from Bourg-Charente.
Distillation (Year 1969): It was distilled in 1969 using a tiny, historic 6-hectolitre still that M. Dauge had restored after it had sat unused since 1914. This represents the final production run ever made with that historic still. Exceptional Aging: It was aged for over half a century (more than 50 years) in large 600-liter casks before being transferred to 400-liter barrels and finally stored in glass demijohns to halt its aromatic evolution at its peak.
Tasting Notes
Aroma / Nose: Delicate, complex, and elegant. Dominant notes of ripe figs, pears, and plums, accompanied by buttery nuances and fresh brioche reminiscent of raisin bread.
Taste / Palate: Extraordinary smoothness and roundness. The palate reveals the classic *rancio* character typical of truly great aged cognacs, along with hints of fine leather, nutmeg, and sweet spices.
Finish: Extremely long, harmonious, and light, characterized by a perfect balance between fruitiness and the evolved notes derived from the wood.
History of Maison Delamain
Historical origins: The family's roots in Jarnac date back to 1759 with the arrival of the Irishman James Delamain. The modern aging house was officially founded in 1824.
Unique specialization: Unlike many other producers, Delamain neither grows nor purchases grapes for generic blends; it works exclusively with *eaux-de-vie* from the Grande Champagne *cru* (the region's most prestigious) and markets only XO (Extra Old) category cognacs or special vintage/single-cask editions.
Philosophy & Aging: Their *chais* (cellars) are located near the banks of the Charente River, providing an ideal humid microclimate that allows for slow maturation in old casks (without added coloring or sugar), thereby preserving the natural finesse and the floral and fruity character of the spirit.
