Filafani, a Senufo Korhogo wall hanging from Ivory Coast, 112 × 162 cm, handmade in mixed media on 100% handwoven cotton with natural mud pigment, unsigned, in very good vintage condition.
Description from the seller
A beautiful and authentic Korhogo wall rug (also known as filafani or mud cloth), handmade by the Senufo people from northern Ivory Coast.
This unique piece of textile art is an absolute eye-catcher in any modern, bohemian, or eclectic interior. Artisanal and traditional process:
This cloth is produced in a fully traditional manner. The canvas consists of narrow, hand-spun and hand-woven cotton strips that are sewn together. The detailed, characteristic figures are hand-painted using a natural, organic pigment based on fermented mud and plant extracts.
The rug tells a visual story steeped in Senufo mythology. In the center are traditional village huts, surrounded by stylized birds (symbols of freedom and community). At the top and bottom are hunters or ritual dancers with traditional masks and headpieces, representing protection and spiritual力量. The whole is framed with a geometric protective border.
Specifications:
Origin: Korhogo region, Ivory Coast (West Africa)
Senufo people
Material: 100% handwoven cotton and natural mud dye.
In very good vintage condition with a beautiful, well-worn character (see photos for details). Supplied with handy loops on the side/top to hang the cloth easily.
A unique and meaningful work of art that brings history and warmth into the home.
