A remarkable antique Belgian tin measure with a capacity of 500 ml (½ liter), made in Mechelen and attributed to the Mechelen tin-founder Gerardus Johannes Matheus Pas (G.P.).
The measure bears a clearly struck mark with the letters G and P, surrounding a coat-of-arms motif. Gerardus Johannes Matheus Pas worked as a tinner in Mechelen. After his death in 1902, the business was continued by his widow until 1908.
Particularly interesting is the long sequence of old calibration and control stamps applied to the handle. These attest to the actual use of the can as an official capacity measure and to repeated checks during its period of use.
