Description from the seller
Louis XV-style marble-decorated cartel clock in bois marqueté with a marsh scene featuring herons and gilded bronze - Vincenti medal-bearing movement (1855)
Splendid and important Napoleonic-era or late Louis XV style cartel, from the 19th century, with a lively form, resting on a richly curved gilded and chased bronze plinth. The case is entirely clad in precious wood marquetry in a naturalistic marsh scene with reeds, water lilies, and majestic herons. The top is crowned by an elegant gilded bronze sculpture of a putto holding a cluster of grapes.
The white enamel dial with black Roman numerals (and Arabic numerals for the minutes) is signed with the clockmaker’s name and opens behind a convex door. The high-quality movement bears the maker’s signature and the Vincenti mark (silver medal at the 1855 Exhibition) as well as a serial number (7625).
Era: Second half of the 19th century (circa 1855)
Material: Veneered wood, gilded bronze, and enamel dial
Signature: Clockmaker on the dial and Vincenti medaled movement (1855) on the back
Technical specifications
Height: 52 cm
Width: 22 cm
Depth: 15 cm
Weight: 5.2 kg
Condition report
Overall condition: Item sold as-is, intended for horology enthusiasts and collector-restorers. The balance wheel is missing, the movement requires a complete overhaul, and there are losses/peelings of marquetry to be restored on the body of the cartel (notably on the upper part and the side). The gilded bronzes preserve a beautiful patina.
