The Ricoh Auto Half SE belongs to the charming family of half-frame cameras Ricoh began in 1960, distinguished by something almost no other camera offered: a clockwork spring motor that advances the film automatically after every shot. Wind the large dial on the front, and the camera fires and advances for a dozen frames without further attention — automatic exposure by selenium meter, fixed focus, no batteries anywhere. The SE of 1966 added a self-timer and hot shoe to the formula. Squeezing 72 shots from a 36-exposure roll in a body smaller than many phones, it has become a cult favourite among street photographers and collectors of Japanese design.

Optical Condition
Finder: Cleaned internally.
Lens / Sensor: Clear — no haze, fungus or scratches.

Functional
The spring-motor film advance, shutter and automatic exposure work. The meter reads about 2.5 stops bright in bright light (+1.2 EV at EV12, +2.6 EV at EV15) — see Known Issues.
The light seals have been replaced and the viewfinder cleaned internally.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 1.2 OVER / EV15: 2.6 OVER
Some of these deviations exceed what negative film can absorb — please read the Known Issues section and allow for them when shooting.

Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
- Viewfinder cleaned internally

Known Issues
1. In bright light the automatic exposure reads about 2.5 stops bright and will overexpose; negative film will absorb some of this, but expect dense negatives in sunlight.

Shipping
We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
We only ship to registered addresses.

Customs and Taxes
Parcels are shipped DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid): import VAT and any customs duties are collected by customs or the carrier on delivery, in accordance with the rules of the destination country.
