Original vintage Sciuko lamp, designed in 1966 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos, presented in its beautiful original red lacquered finish.
The Sciuko is a remarkable example of the Castiglioni brothers’ approach to functional and experimental design. Rather than creating a conventional lamp intended for one fixed position, they developed a compact and highly adaptable lighting object whose orientation and configuration can be changed according to its use.
The lamp consists of a circular lacquered metal body housing a substantial concentric pressed-glass diffuser, combined with a bent metal support connected to the body through the characteristic toothed side rosettes.
These toothed joints allow the support to be repositioned and locked at different angles, changing both the orientation of the lamp and the direction of the light.
Multi-position design – Table / Wall / Ceiling
One of the most distinctive features of the Sciuko is its versatility.
The external metal frame is not simply a decorative stand, but an integral part of the design. By changing its position, the lamp can be placed and oriented in several different ways.
The Sciuko was conceived for use as a table lamp, but its movable support also allows it to be hung or mounted for wall or ceiling use, depending on the chosen installation.
This versatility was already documented shortly after the lamp was introduced. Period documentation from 1967 illustrates the Sciuko in several different positions and configurations, demonstrating the flexibility of the original design.

Design and materials
The Sciuko combines an almost industrial construction with the sculptural forms typical of innovative Italian design of the 1960s.
Its large pressed-glass optical diffuser with concentric rings gives the front of the lamp its unmistakable appearance, while the rounded lacquered metal body contrasts with the exposed metal support.
The result is a compact yet visually powerful object with a distinctly 1960s Italian modernist / Space Age character.
The model was designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos in 1966 and is documented in period and specialist design literature, including Domus, no. 442, September 1966, and Giuliana Gramigna’s publications on Italian design.
This example
This particular example is finished in red and retains its original vintage colour and lacquer.
The lamp has not been repainted or cosmetically restored.
The original finish has deliberately been preserved, including its signs of age, small paint losses, scratches and patina. These imperfections are part of the history and authenticity of a design object dating from the 1960s.
The lamp retains its vintage electrical configuration and is operated using the in-line switch located on the power cord, clearly visible in the photographs.
The lamp has been tested and is working.
A light bulb is included in the lot.
Condition
The lamp is presented in authentic vintage condition with visible signs of age and use.
There are two visible dents / indentations in the metal body. These are clearly documented in the photographs and have deliberately not been repaired.
There are also several areas of wear and loss to the original red lacquer, particularly around parts of the outer body and the toothed side adjustment elements, together with scratches, marks and other signs consistent with its age.
The metal support also shows normal vintage patina and signs of use.
Importantly, the red lacquer is the original finish and the lamp has not been repainted. The areas where the paint has worn or chipped have intentionally been left untouched rather than concealed by a modern cosmetic restoration.
The large concentric pressed-glass diffuser is intact, with no visible cracks or breaks.
Please examine all photographs carefully. They form an integral part of the condition description and deliberately show the lamp from multiple angles, including the two dents, paint losses, adjustment mechanism, electrical cord, switch and glass diffuser.
