Ca. 420-390 BC.
Tetartemorion (Silver, 5.5 mm, 0.31 g).
Obv: Forepart of a roaring lion to left, head turned back to right.
Rev: Bird standing left; pellets to lower left and upper right; all within incuse square.
Reference: SNG Kayhan 944-946.
Mylasa was one of the principal cities of ancient Caria in southwestern Anatolia, renowned for its sanctuaries and close association with the Carian rulers of the Hekatomnid dynasty. Before the rise of nearby Halikarnassos, it served as an important political and religious center. Mylasa prospered through agriculture and regional trade, issued its own coinage, and retained significance under Persian, Hellenistic and later Roman rule.
