Rare Pocket Matchbox Case (Vesta Case) in Enamel and Gold-Turnished Brass

Rare and charming late 19th-century vesta case.
The rectangular case with gently curved lines is made of gilded brass, displaying an authentic patina of use.
The front face is adorned with a hand-painted enamel plaque, vividly and humorously illustrating a Parisian genre scene: “Les Clodoches.” (19th-century street scene)
Beautiful overall condition for a pocket object of this era. The brass shows an original gilding with superficial wear and a natural patina that attest to its authenticity. The painted enamel remains very bright, displaying fresh colors (cobalt blue, saffron yellow, carmine red); there are light surface crazing and tiny enamel losses at the edge to note (visible in the photos), without altering the legibility of the subject. The hinge operates perfectly and closes correctly.
