Description from the seller
Product description & Scientific data
Scientific name: Cantharus melanostomus (G. B. Sowerby I, 1825).
Common name: Schwarzmund-Becher (English: Black-mouthed Goblet).
Quality grade: GEM (flawless shell with no visible damage; perfect whorls, apex and outer lip).
Size: 60 mm (6.0 cm). A 60 mm specimen is a sizeable large example.
The average size of the species is usually 40–50 mm, although giant specimens can reach up to 76–100 mm in exceptional cases.
Special feature: The standout characteristic of this species is the deep dark brown to jet-black coloration of the columella and the inner lip, which contrasts strongly and attractively with the otherwise lighter aperture and the creamy-brown banded shell surface.
