The German inventor Friedrich Deusch patented the silverlay
process in 1895 and showcased his work in 1907 at the Bordeaux
exhibition. Thanks to him the town Schwäbisch Gmünd
became the center of German production of silver coatings.
The first objects Friedrich Deusch designed and produced are very classical, followed by an abstract phase of Art Déco in its purest form.
After Deusch and Company, other companies were founded that specialized in this technique, such as Friedrich Wilhelm Spahr and Alfred and Manfred Veyhl. Parallel to the development of German production, a similar one was started in the United States.
