Specimen: ★ THAI GIANT ★ Turris crispa, 75 mm, GEM quality, original, from Thailand; scientific name Turris crispa.
Description from the seller
Artikelbeschreibung & Wissenschaftliche Daten
Scientific name: Turris crispa (Lamarck, 1816) – traditionally often listed as Turris crispa crispa.
Common name: Elegant slit-turban snail (English: Supreme Turrid).
Quality level: GEM (absolutely flawless condition for collectors. The extremely long, needle-shaped siphonal canal is completely undamaged, the delicate, fine spiral ridges are sharply preserved, and the apex as well as the aperture lip show no chips).
Size:
75 mm (7.5 cm) – sensational giant form for this locality! While the species in the Indo-Pacific generally reaches between 60 and 170 mm, Thai populations are genetically limited and rarely exceed 46 mm. At 75 mm this is an absolute exceptional and splendid specimen for provenance specialists.
Morphology: An extremely elegant, elongated tower-shaped shell. Notable are the pearl-like fine, reddish-brown-dotted spiral bands on a cream-white background and the deep, distinctive notch in the outer lip.
Family: Turridae (slit-turret snails).
Origin & Habitat
Geographic origin: Thailand (typically from the Andaman Sea, e.g., waters around Phuket or Racha Island).
Habitat: A marine deep-water species. It lives benthic in clean or slightly muddy sand at water depths of about 20 to 60 meters, where it is usually recovered by local fishermen as bycatch in nets.
