Scientific name: Cymbiola rutila ruckeri (Crosse, 1867) – often mistakenly synonymized with C. rutila norrisii.
Common name: Rucker's Blood-red Volute (English: Rucker's Blood-red Volute).
Quality grade: GEM (absolutely flawless condition; the highly glossy shell surface, the aperture lip, and the sharp apex show no chips, cracks, or growth defects).
Size: 90 mm (9.0 cm). A very impressive and perfectly proportioned adult size.
Morphology: This subspecies is characterized by an extremely attractive color pattern. On a cream to pale pink background lies a dense, high-contrast pattern of red-brown to deep blood-red zigzag lines and spots. The spire shows the characteristic, bold volute folds.
Family: Volutidae (volutes).
Origin & Habitat
Geographic origin: Bismarck Archipelago, Papua New Guinea (Central Indo-Pacific / Melanesia).
Habitat: A strictly marine predatory snail species. It lives on sandy and coral rubble bottoms in shallow waters as well as in deeper reef areas (usually at depths of 3 to 25 meters), where it is often collected by local divers.
