The Vatican 2026 Year Set (BU) in UNC condition contains one item and features a unique design alternating the pope’s portrait and the Papal Coat of Arms on the coins, with a 2 euro coin displaying the coat of arms’ lily and flaming heart pierced by an arrow above an open book on an ivory background with blue accents, limited to 43,774 pieces, and conceived as the first issue of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate with designer Daniela Longo and named engravers.
Description from the seller
The Vatican’s new euro coin set – the first to appear during the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV – is directly inspired by the pope’s coat of arms. This shield is depicted on the cover with a finish reminiscent of chalk drawings and is embossed on an ivory-colored background. A deep blue hue highlights the inscriptions and key graphic elements, referring to the colors of the two heraldic fields of the papal coat of arms. This same color combination will be even more prominent in the new packaging design for future numismatic issues. This is not merely an aesthetic choice, but a sincere tribute and a direct reference to the new pontificate. The coins in the set feature a unique alternation between the pope’s portrait and the papal coat of arms: the portrait adorns the coins with the higher denomination, while the coat of arms is depicted on coins of the lower denomination. This graphic concept is unprecedented in the history of Vatican coin sets. The 2-euro coin also contains the characteristic elements of Pope Leo XIV’s coat of arms: the lily, symbol of purity and Marian devotion, and the blazing heart pierced by an arrow above an open book; the latter stands for Augustinian spirituality and the power of God’s Word to transform the human heart. Artist and sculptor: Daniela Longo. Engravers: Emanuele Ferretti (2 euro), Marta Bonifacio (1 euro), Antonio Vecchio (50 eurocent), Silvia Petrassi (20 eurocent), Annalisa Masini (10 eurocent), Valerio de Seta (5 eurocent), Emanuele Ferretti (2 eurocent), Antonio Vecchio (1 eurocent).
