Pair of 18th‑century Delft faience vases with late 19th‑century bronze mounts, made in the Netherlands, in good used condition with minor aging, with a diameter of 28 cm and an overall height of 35 cm including the mounts.
Description from the seller
Pair of 18th-Century Delft Blue-and-White Vases with Later Bronze Mounts
A rare and highly decorative pair of Dutch Delft blue-and-white faience vases, dating from the 17th century, decorated in the characteristic cobalt-blue palette with floral motifs, birds and ornamental panels.
The two vases retain their original Delft decoration and are mounted in finely cast gilt/bronze mounts dating from around 1900–1920. The mounts incorporate a substantial ornamental base with scrolling foliage, moulded decoration and a shaped architectural form, typical of the historicist/Belle Époque taste of the period.
The original necks were cleanly removed during the later conversion, allowing the vessels to be incorporated into the bronze mounts. The blue-and-white decoration remains exceptionally attractive and the two examples form a matching pair.
The combination of 17th-century Delft faience with early 20th-century bronze mounts is particularly characteristic of the European taste for mounting antique Asian and Dutch ceramics around the turn of the 20th century.
