Turquoise glazed earthenware Budai figure table lamp from China, titled “turquoise buddha lamp”, in good condition, with 28 cm width, 34 cm height and 19 cm depth, weighing 2700 g, signed on the base.
Description from the seller
This is an antique Chinese table lamp made of turquoise glazed porcelain, modeled after Budai (also known as the Laughing Buddha or Maitreya). Originally it was made as a standalone Chinese porcelain statue, which was later (often in the 20th century during the Hollywood Regency period) converted into a decorative lamp base.
Style & Material: The statue is made of fine Chinese earthenware or porcelain, finished with a characteristic glossy turquoise glaze. The figure sits in a relaxed pose with an exposed belly and holds a prayer bead (mala) in the right hand.
Origin: This type turquoise glazed Budai figures was mainly produced in China (often in Jingdezhen or Shiwan) during the Republic period (1912–1949).
Condition is good with some light signs of use which is normal given its age; see photos, old fitting with chain and plug.
Signed on the bottom.
