Obv: Macedonian shield, decorated with five groups of double crescents separated by groups of five pellets, boss decorated with head of Heracles facing, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck, turned slightly right.
Rev: B-A. Macedonian helmet facing; monogram in left field and kerykeion in right field.

Alexander IV, the posthumous son of Alexander the Great and Roxana, was proclaimed king at birth alongside Philip III Arrhidaios. As a child he never exercised real power, while generals and regents fought for control of Alexander’s empire. After Philip III’s death, Alexander IV remained king in name until Cassander imprisoned and murdered him and his mother, effectively ending the Argead dynasty.
