Pair of Victorian Balloon-Back chairs – Mahogany – circa 1850
A matching pair of English Victorian Balloon-Back chairs in mahogany, dating from the mid-19th century, approx. 1840–1860.
The characteristic open and softly curved backs give this chair style its name. The front legs are elaborately turned, while the rear legs are set slightly outward.
The mahogany possesses a beautiful patina developed over decades. Especially on the wide backs, the old surface with its fine age-related craquelé is clearly visible.
The seats were professionally reupholstered at a later date and covered with light beige fabric. The fabric shows slight signs of age and use.
