Description from the seller
Tenebrescent Hackmanite Rough – Badakhshan, Afghanistan
A fascinating lot of Natural Hackmanite rough from the Badakhshan mines of Afghanistan, with a total weight of 36 grams comprising 33 individual pieces.
This lot is particularly attractive because of its tenebrescence, the remarkable reversible colour-changing phenomenon for which Hackmanite is well known. Under UV light, the pieces display three distinct colours: vivid yellow, intense sapphire-like blue and rich purple reminiscent of amethyst. The colour changes are clearly visible in the photographs provided.
The pieces have an attractive natural lustre. The smaller crystals show better transparency, while the larger specimens are predominantly translucent. The material also offers good lapidary potential: selected smaller pieces can be considered for faceting, while the larger pieces are well suited for cabochons or other decorative applications.
Hackmanite is an uncommon and highly sought-after mineral among collectors, particularly because of its combination of attractive colour and UV-induced tenebrescence. This parcel provides a good variety of sizes and appearances for both collectors and lapidaries.
